Several Democrat Presidential candidates have called for reparations to black Americans for slavery.
Kamala said, “Centuries of slavery, Jim Crow,
legal discrimination and segregation, and discrimination that exist today have
led to a systemic wealth gap between black and white Americans. I’m serious about taking an approach that
would change policies and structures and make real investments in black
communities.”
Senator Elizabeth Warren said: “We must
confront the dark history of slavery and government-sanctioned discrimination
in this country.” This history has crippled “the ability of black families to
build wealth in America for generations.”
Here is an overlooked fact: there are more
poor “non-black” American Citizens than there are Black. It is true that a higher PERCENTAGE of African-Americans than whites are
poor, but the fact is, there are more poor white people than poor black people
in the USA. And if we include the poor Hispanic
and poor Asians, we see that black people make up a very small percentage of
the poor people in America. Doesn’t poverty
produce the same negative consequence regardless of race?
Another overlooked fact: not all slaves were
black. There were also white slaves.
Another overlooked fact: not all slave owners
were white. There were also black slave owners.
In fact, the very first slave owner in America was a black man.
Another overlooked fact: hundreds of
thousands of todays white Americans did not even have ancestors in this country
during the time of slavery. The great
migration of Eastern and Southern Europeans (Poles, Italians, Jews, Slavs, and Slovaks)
occurred long after slavery had ended. They
had nothing to do with instituting Jim Crow. Should they be made to pay for sins their
ancestors did not commit?
There are other questions:
What percentage of a person’s DNA must be
African to qualify for these reparations?
Just because a person has African DNA, how do
we know that person had an ancestor that was actually a slave? Many black people migrated to America after
slavery ended.
Would Elizabeth Warren’s American Indian DNA
of less than 1 percent be sufficient to provide her with reparations for
America’s Indian wars?
If slavery and segregation explain the
disparity in wealth between black and white in the U.S., what explains the
equally wide disparity in wealth between Hispanics and Asians?
Here’s an idea you might want to consider:
Politically, the party of slavery, secession
and segregation was the party of Jefferson, Jackson, Clay, Calhoun, Wilson and
FDR, who put a Klansman on the Supreme Court.
In other words, the Democratic Party.
The Republican Party was formed to contain
and end slavery, which it did.
For those of you who believe congress should study reparations and/or give reparations to black Americans, remember this number: 630,000.
630,000 represents the number of killed and wounded in the Union Army
during the Civil War. For those of you who don’t know, the Union Army
would be the army to have fought to end slavery.
360,000 killed and 270,000 wounded soldiers is reparation enough.
Enough with the silliness and tomfoolery of the Democrat Party. Enough
with their race baiting. Enough with their political posturing with Al
Sharpton. Enough with reparations.
Therefore perhaps only Democrats should have
to pay reparations.
