This is an open letter to Miss Sarah Jeong.
If you don’t know who she is, I will just say she is
an extremely racist young Asian lady whom the New York Times recently hired as
a member of their editorial board. Here is her photo along with one of her
recent tweets.
There were a lot more of facebook, but the
really bad ones have now been deleted…
She seems to
have a genuine hatred for “old white American men”. I know that she was born in South
Korea, and she seems to be a well-educated
person, so she must have at least some knowledge of the history of South Korea, and the roll these “old white
American men” played in that history.
I wonder if
she has ever even considered the possibility that she might not even be alive today if not for some of those Dumbass
white people she seems to hate so much.
I wonder if she even knows that the Korean People were actually slaves
of another Asian country until America put an end to their slavery with the end
of WW2. I wonder if she knows how many Americans
fought and died protecting South Korea during the Korean War.
I was stationed in South Korea for
a year shortly after the war so I know what her Grandparents and Great
Grandparents went through. Many of us
from the 58th Fighter Bomber wing spent most of our off duty time taking
care of South Korean Orphanages. We
often took cases of powdered milk and powdered eggs, along with gum and candy
bars to them. When time permitted, we
played games with the kids and even taught them to speak a little English.
I’m not writing this to brag
about our “good deeds”, I just want people to understand why her words hurt so
many of us. There were literally
thousands of orphans in south Korea in those days, so it is within the realm of
possibility that one or more of her grandparents or great grandparents could
have been one of them… Wouldn’t that be ironic?
