Would you vote to fire the Democrats who stopped the bill o help our vets?

Fire Every Democrat Who Stopped Bill to Help Vets

The scandal at the VA has been a long-running problem that many people have known about for awhile, yet nobody has done anything and the problem has gotten much worse.

Sara Palin said recently that the treatment of our vets by the VA is “un-American”, and there is widespread, bipartisan agreement with her view.
Except among Democrats in the Senate, who agreed with Harry Reid’s decision to block a bill from the House that would make it easier for VA officials to be fired if they have done wrong.

Texas Representative Louie Gohmert had harsh words for the Democrats that allowed the bill to be blocked, saying they were more concerned with protecting the bureaucracy than our nation’s veterans.

“Every single senator who has not demanded that Harry Reid bring the VA bill to the floor should be fired come November,” Gohmert told TheBlaze.

“It’s time to clean house and I hope that voters are taking notice of who they need to kick out of the Senate for failing to stand up for the house-cleaning in the Veterans administration.”

“The Democrats in the Senate need to be held accountable for not coming forward and demanding that the VA have a house cleaning of those who have kept veterans from getting the care they need when they need it,” Gohmert said.

Gohmert also said that this particular bill that would have allowed for senior VA officials to be fired more easily is not the only thing Republicans are looking at, in regards to fixing the VA, but didn’t get specific on details.

“You haven’t seen the last of the House trying to force the VA to do what’s needed,” he said. “There’ll be much more, we’re just looking at different things we can do to force their hand to take care of the veterans.”

He gave one hint, however, by saying Republicans are looking for ways to rebalance the VA so it contains fewer bureaucrats who don’t help veterans directly, and more people to offer actual services. “That’s one of the things you’ll see Republicans attempting to address even further,” he said.

Gohmert also discussed a bill he has introduced that would repeal gun free zones on military bases and let the base commanders decide who can and can’t carry weapons.
“I think America feels strongly enough about allowing our military to protect itself, whether it’s overseas or here in the U.S.,” he said. “We trust them with grenade launchers, rocket-propelled grenades, with jets with massive bombing power. You would think we could trust them with a pistol here.”

“I’m dedicated to trying to make that if the administration’s not going to do anything, then Congress needs to make sure that our military can protect themselves,” he added.
Finally, Gohmert addressed an idea that has been floated about allowing illegal immigrants to gain citizenship by enlisting in the military.

“Every time anybody in Washington talks about legal status, amnesty, anything of that nature, it becomes a magnet that lures people in quickly into the United States,” he said. “It is a very very dangerous situation when people, whether they’re like the president, Democrats in the Senate and even a few Republicans, contribute to the lure of young children and even adults to come in because of the talk of legal status.”

“We’re throwing American heroes, American patriots, out of the military,” he said. “It would absolutely add such an insult to the devastating injury to our military to say, not only are we kicking you out… but we’re going to bring in people that came into the country illegally.”

Gohmert is right, in that the Democrats who allowed Harry Reid to shelve the bill that would have made a start in fixing the VA need to pay a price for putting politics above our veterans, especially considering the widespread, bipartisan outrage about this scandal.

He is also correct that gun free zones on military bases need to be done away with.  It is ridiculous that our men and women of the military, who are trained in the safe use of firearms, are not permitted to carry a pistol for the defense of themselves and others.

Finally, he is on the right track about allowing illegals to enlist in the military in order to gain citizenship.  On it’s face, there is nothing necessarily wrong with that idea, but like every other amnesty or legal status idea, it must be contingent upon a secure border, which we currently don’t have.  Any time citizenship and legal status is brought up, while our borders are still wide open, only encourages more illegal immigration.  And when it comes to enlisting in military service, US citizens must be given preference over illegals, at all times.

Please share this on Facebook and Twitter if you agree with Louie Gohmert, and think Senate Democrats need to pay a price in November for putting party politics above the VA scandal.
