A COUNTRY DIVIDED

We live in an increasingly divided country.  Half of America wants to be protected by the government and the other half wants to be protected from the government.  The new gun control bill really highlights that divide.

I realize that the actual facts seldom matter in politics but here are some that should matter.  The deranged Sandy Hook shooter tried to buy a rifle but was denied.  He then violated existing laws 43 times in carrying out his mass murder.
So, how will more laws help when we don’t even enforce existing ones that would have prevented this?

According to Dr. Alan Bates, "Murder rates nationwide have dropped 52 percent over the past 20 years and violent crimes have declined for the past 18 of 20 years by 49 percent to a 41-year low (FBI stats), synchronous with 41 states adopting 'right to carry' laws."

And I bet you never heard about this: the Pearl, MS high school shooting was stopped by Assistant Principal Joel Myrick.  In violation of federal law, he went to his truck and got his .45 semi-automatic pistol.  Nor do we hear about the up to two million times a year that citizens use guns to thwart murder, rape, assault, robbery, etc.  The media ignore these stories because they don't fit their narrative.

As part of Obama’s new gun control agenda, he deputized doctors under Obamacare to question patients on their guns and where they store them.  As ridiculous as that may seem, an even more part of the new gun control bill is the list of “banned features” on guns that, in the minds of left wing politicians causes them to become a dreaded “assault weapon”.

Because “assault weapon” and “assault rifle” are nonsense terms, they just came up with a list of arbitrary features which, in their mind, made a gun into an assault weapon. The problem is, none of these features actually make the gun functionally any different or somehow more lethal or better from any other run of the mill firearm.

For example, flash guards sound dangerous. …Problem is they don’t do much. They screw onto the end of your muzzle and divert the flash off to the side instead of straight up so it isn’t as annoying when you shoot.  It doesn’t actually hide the flash from anybody else.   Barrel shrouds were also listed.  Barrel shrouds are basically useless, cosmetic pieces of metal that go over the barrel so you don’t accidentally touch it and burn your hand.   Collapsible stocks make it so you can adjust your rifle to different size shooters, that way a tall guy and his short wife can shoot the same gun.

Feinstein's semi-automatic ban proposal has been released and she has targeted more guns than previously reported. Here are some key parts of the proposal:

It bans158 specifically-named firearms. -Many of the weapons on this banned list are used every day in America for hunting, sport, or personal protection.

It bans All semiautomatic rifles that can accept a detachable magazine and have at least one military feature: pistol grip; forward grip; folding, telescoping, or detachable stock; grenade launcher or rocket launcher; barrel shroud; or threaded barrel.

It bans All semiautomatic pistols that can accept a detachable magazine and have at least one military feature: threaded barrel; second pistol grip; barrel shroud; capacity to accept a detachable magazine at some location outside of the pistol grip; or semiautomatic version of an automatic firearm.

It bans All semiautomatic rifles and handguns that have a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.

It bans All semiautomatic shotguns that have a folding, telescoping, or detachable stock; pistol grip; fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 5 rounds; ability to accept a detachable magazine; forward grip; grenade launcher or rocket launcher; or shotgun with a revolving cylinder.

It bans All ammunition feeding devices (magazines, strips, and drums) capable of accepting more than 10 rounds.

It bans Thumbhole stocks, a type of stock that was created as a workaround to avoid prohibitions on pistol grips. -A thumbhole stock is not a substitute for a pistol grip; it is designed to keep the shooter as steady as possible. They are used on many hunting and target rifles designed for top accuracy.

So along with the 157 specifically banned models, any other firearm that contains one of these characteristics will also be banned. The sale, transfer, manufacturing, or importation of any of these firearms will be prohibited.

Now are you starting to see why “assault weapons” is a pointless term?  They aren’t functionally any more powerful or deadly than any normal gun.  In fact the cartridges they normally fire are far less powerful than your average deer hunting rifle.

Also, there is one more thing in this bill that’s not getting a lot of attention.  This bill will create a NATIONAL REGISTRY of ALL guns.  This may sound perfectly reasonable to most people but I am very concerned about what the government may use it for at some point in the future.  Think about it.  When the day comes that the government decides to confiscate all guns, the national registry will tell them where they are.

One of the big issues in the gun-control debate is whether there should be limits on the number of rounds the magazines can hold.  The bill would make all magazines that will hold more than ten rounds illegal.

Why do gun owners want magazines that hold more rounds?  Because sometimes you miss.  Because usually—contrary to the movies—you have to hit an opponent multiple times in order to make them stop.  Because sometimes you may have multiple assailants.

And, there have been many cases of enraged, drug addled, prison hardened, perpetrators who took up five, seven, nine, even fifteen bullets and still walked under their own power.  That isn’t uncommon at all.   Also, no matter how well you shoot at the firing range, you’re not going to be that good in a real life and death situation with all the stress and adrenalin.  So having more rounds in the gun is a good thing for self-defense use.

Unlike the law abiding gun owner who gets attacked and has to defend himself in whatever situation he finds himself in, the mass shooter is the aggressor.  He has picked the engagement range.  They are cowards who are murdering innocent people, but don’t for a second make the mistake of thinking they are dumb.  Many of these scumbags are actually very intelligent.  They’re crazy and evil, not stupid

Why are the president and Senator Feinstein so eager to compromise basic American freedoms with gun control measures that have already been proven not to work?  I can assure you, it has nothing to do with recent events.  They have always wanted to disarm American civilians.   They have the voting record that proves it.  They were simply waiting for a disaster to happen to get more Democrats on the bandwagon.

This administration even went so far as to attempt to create such a disaster.  That was the real reason for operation “fast and furious” which backfired.

This administration is living in a fantasy world.

  1. Socialized welfare lifestyle is great until the government runs short of money, and the money will run out. With so many wealthy citizens (who pay most of the taxes) leaving the country, it will run out even sooner. Then, corners must be cut, and the lavish generosity must be scaled back.
That is when I expect to see riots in the streets of most major cities.
    You WILL NEED self protection…
