ETHANOL: I HATE IT!

I think most of us will agree that ethanol is and always has been a bad idea.  Well at least, most of us accept the government.

I haven’t met anyone who actually prefers ethanol gas over pure gas.  I know a lot of people use it because it’s cheaper, but it wouldn’t be if it were not being subsidized by OUR TAX MONEY.   In most cases, it’s actually less expensive to buy pure gas because most automobiles get much better mileage with it.

It’s time to put a stop to this nonsense.   The price of corn is at all all-time high partly because of extreme drought conditions in the US and partly because of the US policy that mandates production of ethanol for blending in gasoline. That ethanol comes mostly from corn.   YES, that’s the reason gas prices are going up.

Diverting corn crops to inefficient ethanol production has members of the Group of 20 leading economies – including France, India and China – concerned about the US ethanol policy.   In response, the UN urges US to cut ethanol production

The US is poised to divert around 40 per cent of its corn into ethanol because of the Congress-enacted mandate despite “huge damage” to the crop because of the worst drought in at least half a century, José Graziano da Silva, director-general of the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation, warned.

“An immediate, temporary suspension of that [ethanol] mandate would give some respite to the market and allow more of the crop to be channelled towards food and feed uses,” he wrote in an opinion piece in the Financial Times.

So you see it’s not just the price of corn and gasoline that’s going up.  All products that contain corn are going up.  Increased cost of cattle feed causes an increase in the price of beef and the list goes on and on.

I very rarely ever agree with the UN on anything, but this time they are right on.
