Homo-Phobia and/or Homophobic



All the recent discussions about Duck Dynasty and Phil Robertson, has prompted me to ask, “What exactly is homophobia”.
Some say it’s just a “made up word”.  Well, technically it’s not a “made up” word; however, todays commonly accepted meaning is a “made up” meaning.

Let’s examine the compound word by breaking it down into it’s two parts.
Phobia is simple enough, it means; an exaggerated usually inexplicable and illogical fear of a particular object, class of objects, or situation (Merriam Webster Dictionary-2013)   Therefore, homophobic actually means the fear of “HOMO”.

The meaning of the compound word “homophobia “depends on which definition of “homo” you wish to use.

The first definition of “HOMO” is: any of a genus of hominids that includes modern humans (homo sapiens) and several extinct species (as homo erectus and homo habilus).  In which case; homophobic would be the fear of all hominids. That includes modern humans and several now extinct ancestral species.  OK, there are a few humans you may fear.  Mike Tyson comes to mind, unless you want your ear bitten off..

The second definition of “HOMO” is: "the same", in which case; homophobic would be the fear of everything that is the same.  Makes no sense at all.

The third definition of “HOMO” is: a prefix that may be used in organic chemistry's trivial names to indicate a next higher straight chain homolog, i.e., one noncyclic carbon more (and similarly "dihomo-" meaning two noncyclic carbons more) – examples include: Homochlorclizine, and Homovanillc acid.
In which case…Oh well, I think you get my point…

In my opinion, homosexual people really need to come up with a better word to describe people who do not agree with their lifestyle.  Here are a couple of suggestions; how about “straight” or maybe “Christian”.

If you challenge my use of the word “Christian”, I refer you to the following Christian scriptures.

If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. Leviticus 20:13

Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. Romans 1: 24, 25, 26, 27.

The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God. Deuteronomy 22:5.

Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. Jude 7

Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind. 1 Corinthians 6: 9.

Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine. 1 Timothy 1:9,10.

And if a man lie with a beast, he shall surely be put to death: and ye shall slay the beast. And if a woman approach unto any beast, and lie down thereto, thou shalt kill the woman, and the beast: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. Lev 20: 15, 16.

Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion. Leviticus 18: 22, 23.
