Obama offers new gun control steps

WASHINGTON (AP) — Striving to take action where Congress would not, the Obama administration announced new steps Thursday on gun control, curbing the import of military surplus weapons and proposing to close a little-known loophole that lets felons and others circumvent background checks by registering guns to corporations.

Four months after a gun control drive collapsed spectacularly in the Senate, President Barack Obama added two more executive actions to a list of 23 steps the White House determined Obama could take on his own to reduce gun violence. With the political world focused on Mideast tensions and looming fiscal battles, the move signaled Obama's intent to show he hasn't lost sight of a cause he took up after 20 first graders and six adults were gunned down last year in an elementary school in Newtown, Conn.

One new policy will end a government practice that lets military weapons, sold or donated by the U.S. to allies, be reimported into the U.S. by private entities, where some may end up on the streets. The White House said the U.S. has approved 250,000 of those guns to be reimported since 2005; under the new policy, only museums and a few other entities like the government will be eligible to reimport military-grade firearms.

The Obama administration is also proposing a federal rule to stop those who would be ineligible to pass a background check from skirting the law by registering a gun to a corporation or trust. The new rule would require people associated with those entities, like beneficiaries and trustees, to undergo the same type of fingerprint-based background checks as individuals if they want to register guns.
Vice President Joe Biden, Obama's point-man on gun control after the Newtown tragedy thrust guns into the national spotlight, was set to unveil the new actions Thursday at the White House.

The event in the Roosevelt Room will also mark the ceremonial swearing-in for Todd Jones, whose confirmation to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives after six years of political wrangling to fill that position was another of Obama's post-Newtown priorities. A Senate deal to approve the president's pending nominations after Democrats threatened to change Senate rules cleared the way for Jones' confirmation last month.

Still out of reach for Obama were the steps that gun control advocates and the administration's own review say could most effectively combat gun violence in the U.S., like an assault weapons ban and fewer exceptions for background checks for individual sales. Only Congress can act on those fronts.
Although Obama and Biden have said the fight is not over, there is scant evidence that there is more support for gun control legislation than there was in April, when efforts died in the Senate amid staunch opposition from the National Rifle Association and most Republican senators.

"Sooner or later, we are going to get this right," Obama said that day in the White House Rose Garden, with the families of Newtown victims and former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords — herself a victim of a gunman — at his side. "The memories of these children demand it, and so do the American people," the president said at the time.

In the months following the Senate vote, Biden has claimed that at a handful of lawmakers who opposed expanded background checks have told him privately they've changed their minds and want another chance. But Biden and White House officials have not named any of those lawmakers.

These days, Obama mentions gun control with far less regularity than when it appeared the Senate was poised to take action, although Obama did meet Tuesday with 18 city mayors to discuss ways to contain youth violence. And with immigration and pressing fiscal issues dominating Congress' agenda, the prospects for reviving gun legislation appear negligible.

With Jones' confirmation at ATF, the White House has completed or made significant progress on all but one of the 23 executive actions Obama had previously ordered in January, the White House said. Still lingering is an effort to finalize regulations to require insurers to cover mental health at parity with medical benefits, although the White House said that it is committed to making that happen by the end of 2013.

The new rules for guns registered to corporations will follow the traditional regulatory process, with a 90-day comment period before ATF reviews suggestions and finalizes the rule. Last year, ATF received 39,000 requests to register guns to corporations and trusts.

50 years later, black conservatives fulfill the true legacy of Dr. King

Fifty years ago, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. truly spoke for all black people, because we were all unified behind one purpose. That was equal justice and liberty for all, and no one did more to bring it about than Dr. King.

Today, there is no one leader who speaks for all black people, and that includes Barack Obama. He is the president of the United States, but he does not speak for all black people. This is as it should be, because one aspect of the freedom for which Dr. King fought is that no single leader should be able to tell all black people how to think or how to live. And anyone who claims to speak for all black people is a fraud.

Leadership is important, of course, and I want young black people to look to accomplished, responsible, informed black Americans for an example and for insight on how they might build happy and successful futures for themselves. A problem for young blacks, however, is that the most responsible and informed voices are not necessarily the ones you often see on television. They are not the ones who show up when there is racial strife and controversy, but rather the ones who are working hard every day to make the most of the opportunities Dr. King helped to give us.

I am happy to see the commemorations of the 1963 March on Washington, but I am a little disappointed that most of the speakers there will be politicians and activists, and that the tone coming from this event is as though it were still 1963, and that Dr. King’s sacrifices have not borne any fruit. It made me angry when I heard Jesse Jackson the other day compare the Tea Party to the defenders of Jim Crow, because a) I have spoken at many Tea Party rallies and no one has ever treated me as anything other than an American; and b) Jesse Jackson should be better than the cheap tactic of marginalizing every political opponent with the false smear of racism. If he had any confidence in his beliefs, he would not do that.

So let me introduce you to some of my friends, informed black Americans who are Dr. King’s legacy and who can serve as excellent examples of leadership for young blacks who also want to become the fruit of what Dr. King worked so hard to achieve. They are:

Harry Alford – President of the National Black Chamber of Commerce

Ken Blackwell – Former Attorney General of Ohio and former mayor of Cincinnati.  He sits on several boards and is a Senior Fellow for Family Empowerment at the Family Research Council.

Dr. Ben Carson – Retired pediatric neurosurgeon from John Hopkins and political commentator.  Dr. Carson is a quiet and brilliant man, who is unafraid to tell it like it is!

Niger Innis – President of CORE (Council on Racial Equality) and Chief Strategist for the Tea Party Patriots

Dr. Alveda King – Niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and political activist.  Her main focus is working with Priests for Life in protecting the life of the unborn.

Star Parker – Founder of CURE (Center for Urban Renewal and Education) and syndicated columnist.  She has been active in Republican politics and conservative issues since 1995.

Colonel Allen West – Former congressman from Florida, retired Army and political activist for conservative issues.

Armstrong Williams -  American Black Conservative political commentator and host of national syndicated TV program “The Right Side.”

Walter Williams – Distinguished Professor of Economics at George Mason University, as well as a syndicated columnist and author. Known for his libertarian/conservative views.
State Senator Elbert Gillory, R-LA – Recently switched parties from Democrat to Republican.  Outspoken and up and coming in the Republican Party.

Frances Rice – Chairman of the National Black Republican Association.  Mrs. Rice is also a retired U.S. Army Colonel and a terrific spokesperson for conservative issues.

Senator Tim Scott, R-SC:  First black elected Senator in U.S. history!  Senator Scott works tirelessly for the causes of conservatism.

Mia Love – Current mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah.  She is considering another run for Congress to unseat Rep. Jim Matheson (R) who has held his seat for over ten years. Mia is a staunch Republican and someone to watch in the future of the Republican party.

J.C. Watts - Former congressman from Oklahoma.

They all believe in the Constitution of the United States of America. They all believe in our free market system. They believe in freedom, not free stuff. They believe in individual responsibility.
That’s what they all have in common, and they happen to all be black voices. They are the ones that more of us need to listen to. In 1964, the civil liberties no-fly zone was lifted, thanks to the sacrifices, speeches and marches of people like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Today, equal opportunity is pursued in the trenches, in your community, in your place of employment. The promised land of equal opportunity did not promise equal results. That’s where the divisive people get it wrong.

I do a lot of speaking all over the country. I’m going to be speaking at Yale next week. I often get asked when I’m out on the trail, “Mr. Cain, you graduated from college in the late ‘60s on the heels of 1964, and you have succeeded at climbing the corporate ladder. How did you deal with discrimination and being black as you pursued those achievements?”

I’ve gotten that question more than once. My answer has always been, first of all, I didn’t have to deal with my blackness. The people who didn’t like the fact that I was black, they had to deal with my blackness. I didn’t go to work every day flaunting my blackness. I went into work focusing on what I needed to do to achieve results.

Was there discrimination as I climbed the corporate ladder? Yes, but I didn’t focus on it. I allowed resentment to be someone else’s problem.

I was too busy trying to be happy in the pursuit of my own American dream for myself and my family, not worrying about barriers in the mind of others that hold people back.

So let’s use the commemoration of the achievements of the last 50 years to be a springboard for us, positively united, going forward in the next 50 years.

ZIMMERMAN UPDATE

For Zimmerman the legal troubles may not be over.  Ben Jealous of the NAACP has gathered well over a million signatures in an attempt to convince the Justice Department to file charges for civil rights violations against Zimmerman.  The idea is that when Zimmerman followed and then killed Martin it was racially motivated, and because of that, he was violating Martin’s civil rights.  

Interestingly, while his defense did not use “Stand your ground” to defend Zimmerman – they may now use it to fend off a civil suit.  Florida’s “Stand your Ground” law states “that a person whose self defense claim is found lawful "is immune from criminal prosecution and civil action for the use of such self defense."

Besides the threat of being hauled back into court, Zimmerman will also be concerned over the course of the next few years about the millions of people who are out to get him because they believe he was unjustly acquitted.  He is in a no-win situation.

The Situation in Syria

I really don’t know what to think about this whole Syrian thing.  
Either things just don’t add up, or I’ve become too senile to add.  Here are the facts as I see them.

President Barack Obama told Syrian President Bashar Assad just more than a year ago that using chemical weapons on his people would cross a “red line.” It was on Aug. 20, 2012 that Obama made an appearance before the White House press corps and said: “We have been very clear to the Assad regime — but also to the other players on the ground — that a red line for us is we start seeing a whole bunch of chemical weapons moving out or being utilized. That would change my calculus; that would change my equation. We have communicated in no uncertain terms with every player in the region that that’s a red line for us and that there would be enormous consequences if we start seeing movement on the chemical weapons front or the use of chemical weapons.”

On Monday, after reports and video surfaced that purported to show Syrians (including children) suffering the effects of and dying from chemical weapons attacks, the Obama Administration went all in accusing Assad of using chemical weapons on his people.  Knowing Obama as we do, the question we must ask is: Does this make sense?

In Syria’s civil war (which should be none of our concern), Assad’s forces were kicking the al-Qaida rebel forces collective butts.  They had fought them to a standstill at least. This occurred despite the fact that the United States, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and others were supplying them with weapons and materiel.  There are even reports that the CIA and non-government “contractors” were training and fighting with the “rebels.”

Assad, a medical school graduate who was training to be an ophthalmologist in London when he was called back to Syria by his father to take a position in government, is a smart man.  He certainly understood what Obama meant in his “red line” speech.  He understood the universal condemnation that would follow an attack; and he no doubt understands that no matter how big he talks, he would likely meet a fate similar to Saddam Hussein’s were he to provoke the U.S. and its NATO allies into an Iraqi-style invasion.

So what did he have to gain by using chemical weapons on civilians?  And what did he have to gain by inviting U.N. inspectors into Syria to investigate the attack, if he ordered it?  And what did he have to gain by having his troops fire upon the U.N. inspectors who were on their way to the scene of the attack, as has been intimated in media accounts?

The answer, of course, is he had nothing to gain and everything to lose.  So with nothing to gain and everything to lose, it makes no sense that he’s responsible for the gas attacks.

But the rebels have everything to gain by it.  They had been stopped.  There was no way forward without significant Western intervention.  And reports of gas attacks on civilians would give the Obama administration reason for ratcheting up operations there.  For the Al-Qaida backed rebels and the military-industrial complex, it was a win-win.  I never liked the idea of us being on al-Qaida’s side anyway, and to me, it looks like they are playing us for fools.  

The piece loving anti-war mainstream media have jumped on the bandwagon and begun to cheerlead for some kind of response, the American people, by and large, don’t seen to be it.

Polls show that only 9 percent of Americans think the United States should involve itself in Syria’s war.  About 60 percent of respondents said the U.S. should not intervene.  The Syrian people aren’t buying it.  And there is strong evidence the gas attacks were the work of the Free Syrian Army rebel forces.

The war-weary American people understand the United States has nothing to gain by involving itself in another Mideast conflict.  There is no good side to the Syrian war.  Does anyone honestly believe the Syrian people will be better off with al-Qaida than with Assad?

If Obama and the rest of the Democrats can provide justification for another war, they should make the case before Congress.   It may be that Obama is fixing to bite off more than this country can chew.

After the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing in Saudi Arabia, which killed 19 and injured 200 U.S. military personnel, Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.

After the 1998 bombing of U.S. embassies in Africa, which killed 224 and injured 5,000, Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.

After the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole, which killed 17 and injured 39 U.S. sailors, Clinton promised that those responsible be hunted down and punished.

Maybe if Clinton had kept those promises, an estimated 3,000 people in New York and Washington, DC, who are now dead would be alive today.

THINK ABOUT IT! It is a strange turn of events. Hillary gets $8 Million for her forthcoming memoir. Bill gets about $12 Million for his memoir yet to be written. This from two people who spent 8 years being unable to recall anything about past events while under oath.

QUESTIONS FOR OBAMA

I have a few questions I would love to ask President Obama, but the overwhelming odds are that I’ll never get the chance.  I will therefore list some of them here, and if anyone reading this ever should get the opportunity, please ask them on my behalf.

Do you regret aggravating racial tensions in America by inserting yourself into the George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin case by saying, "If I had a son, he would look like Trayvon?"

If you had a son, would he look like those 3 kids who did the brutal school bus beating?

Was your paternal grandmother lying when she said that she saw you being born in Kenya?

If you are a US citizen, why did you receive student aid money as a foreign student?

If you are a US citizen, why do you have a phony social security card?

Are you a Marxist?

How long have you hated America?

Are you a racist?

How long have you hated white people?

 Are you still using illicit drugs?

Americans died in Benghazi and you said it’s a "phony scandal" -- Would you tell a mother who lost a son there that it was a "phony scandal?"

If it's legal for you to unilaterally delay the implementation of the Affordable Care Act's Employer Mandate without Congress having a say, couldn't a Republican President legally choose to unilaterally repeal the entire bill?

How can the American people trust the federal government to have their private data on file when we already know unreliable people like Edward Snowden and Bradley Manning are being given access to that data? 
 
Given that your administration has refused to come clean about what you're doing and has been caught lying on more than a few different issues, how can the American people just take your word for it when you say that private information about American citizens you have no right to view isn't being looked at anyway?

Your administration is flat out refusing to enforce existing immigration law.  Since that's the case, shouldn't the American people assume that if a comprehensive immigration bill were to pass that grants legal status to undocumented Americans in return for tough new laws, that the new laws wouldn't be enforced either?

Given that the IRS has illegally targeted Tea Party groups, isn't it reasonable for Republican groups to demand that the IRS not be allowed to participate in Obamacare?

Are you now willing to admit that a lot of the promises made to the American people to sell the Affordable Care Act just weren't true?  Prices are going up for most people, not down.  Congress is getting the cost of its care supplemented.  Not everybody is going to get to keep his doctor.  It goes on and on.  Do you feel any attacks of conscience over all the lies that were told?  Does it keep you up at night?

In 2008, you promised to change how things worked in Washington and bring unity to the country.  Obviously you've failed and things have gotten very hostile between you and the Republicans in Congress.  Do you believe you've done anything to contribute to the polarization in the country and the acrimonious relationship you have with Republicans or do you believe you haven't made any mistakes?

Many people have compared your administration to the Nixon Administration because of the stonewalling of Congress, using executive privilege to keep the truth from Congress, and because the IRS has been used against your political enemies.  Do you think that it's fair to compare your behavior to Richard Nixon's behavior before he was almost impeached and if not, why not?

You said that Al-Qaeda has been decimated and it’s on the run.  If that’s true, why have we had to recently close down 22 embassies and consulates because of the threat from Al-Qaeda?

The IRS is still flagging and holding Tea Party applications.  So not only was the IRS's behavior a problem, it still is a problem today.  Why did your administration allow this to happen, why haven't you taken action to fix the problems at the IRS, and what are you going to do to ensure that the IRS doesn't continue to target your political opponents on your watch?

How do you justify going on extravagant vacations and sending hundreds of millions to the Egyptians and Palestinians when you're canceling Easter Egg rolls at the White House and pleading poverty because of the sequester?   Aren't you deliberately sabotaging parts of government that are popular with the country to give the false impression that the sequester is having a serious impact on government spending?

To this day, we still don't know what you were doing during the Benghazi attack, what directives you issued, why your administration lied about what was going on, whether you had good reason to have such lax security in the first place, and whether Americans troops could have potentially arrived in time to save the lives of the men who died.  When is your administration going to come clean so that the families of the men who lost their lives can have some peace?

In 2012, you said, "We refused to throw in the towel and do nothing. We refused to let Detroit go bankrupt. We bet on American workers and American ingenuity, and three years later, that bet is paying off in a big way."   Since Detroit has now gone bankrupt, do you think that bet is still paying off or did the American people waste billions of dollars for nothing?  Do you think you deserve any blame for Detroit going bankrupt?  How about unions?  Are they a significant part of the problem in Detroit?

First, almost 50 percent of Americans have less than $500 in savings.  And, now one out of three residents of Obama’s home State of Illinois live in poverty.  A mind-numbing four of five Americans either are experiencing poverty, foreclosure or welfare, or they will in their lifetime. 
Obamanomics has massacred the American middle class.  Our middle class now ranks 27^th in the world.  I believe that Obama’s goal is to create a two-class society.  The super rich (who are beholden to Obama for corporate welfare and government contracts) and the very poor (who are beholden to Obama for checks to survive).  Look no further than the new immigration bill to see the final destruction of middle-class wages.

More grim news: Auto sales are collapsing.  Construction jobs are falling off a cliff.  And U.S. factory orders just suffered the biggest drop in a year.  What about jobs?  Isn’t that picture improving by the minute?   No way, that’s another lie.    Let’s take a close look at the real numbers.

Since the start of 2013, we’ve gained 953,000 jobs; but, amazingly, 731,000 of them are crummy, low-wage, part-time jobs. That’s means almost 80 percent of the jobs created in America are part-time jobs that won’t pay the bills of a typical middle-class lifestyle.  

The best jobs are manufacturing jobs.  Well, under Obama they are losing out by 10-to-1 versus crummy, low-paying jobs.  Facts don’t lie: So far this year more than 246,000 low-paying waiter or bartender jobs have been added to the U.S. economy, versus only 24,000 high-paying manufacturing jobs.   And a lot of the jobs that WERE full time jobs are cutting hours to avoid the expense of ObamaCare.

Speaking of ObamaCare, have you heard about this?   The Obama Administration just hired a company to promote Obamacare over the phone to Americans.  Guess what? Even those jobs are part-time, with no health insurance.

The head of the Internal Revenue Service just testified in front of Congress that he’d rather keep his own health insurance than switch to Obamacare.  The IRS is in charge of Obamacare, and they don’t want any part of it.   And the second-biggest employer in America is now a temp agency.  Good luck getting a quality job in this Obama economy.

Still not convinced? Food stamp rolls are growing 75 times as fast as employment.  The national debt has increased by 50 percent under Obama, even though he promised to reduce it.  Obama promised to reduce health insurance bills for an average American family by $2,500 per year.  Instead, your health bills went up by $3,000 per year.  The men’s labor participation is the lowest rate ever measured since they started tracking it in 1948.  And here’s the clincher: 90 million able-bodied, working-age Americans are not working.

All of this misery morphs together in one tragic new statistic of the Obama economy: There are more Americans getting “food assistance” checks (101 million) than working in the private sector (97 million).  We are certainly witnessing the complete destruction of the middle class.  

Detroit, the biggest city to ever go bankrupt, has been run by Democrats since 1962. That’s more than half a century of 100 percent Democrat rule, using the exact same policies as Obama.  The city is now in ruins.  Detroit leads the Nation in illiteracy, welfare, food stamps, violent crime, murder, abandoned properties and broken street lights.

The city of Detroit’s downfall is built around four core ideas: never-ending entitlement spending, the most government employees per capita of any city in America, monstrous debt and the highest property taxes in America.  It’s no surprise then that Detroit is hopelessly bankrupt.  Sadly, that’s Obama’s exact prescription for prosperity for the entire  Nation?  Higher taxes, more spending, more debt and more government employees.

If you’re waiting for things to improve, don’t hold your breath.  Help isn’t coming, folks. The cavalry isn’t riding in to save you. If anything, they’re coming to kill us.

Detroit certainly is a picture of the future of America under Obamanomics.  It’s the exact same policies.   It’s insane: doing the same stupid things and expecting a different result.

One finale thought: The EU is in the middle of a Great Depression.  Countries like Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, Greece and Cyprus face total disaster.  Their economies are ruined for generations to come.  Yet America under Obama now has more debt than every country in the European Union, combined.  Our country has more government debt than any country in the history of the world.

Obama has increased government spending, deficits and debt, which only drains the private sector of the resources to create good middle class jobs, and economic growth and prosperity.  And he has cheer-led a weak dollar Fed monetary policy that only chases off investors who don't want to invest in dollars that the Fed is depreciating over time."

For some time we have been hearing, and in my case believing, that the United States of America is headed for a train wreck of gigantic proportions. Fiscally, socially, politically, and now president Obama has added militarily to the list among other things.

The USA has always had the resiliency of a rubber band, but events of the last five years have all but taken away our ability to snap back, a rubber band can only stretch so far before it breaks.

It is said that one definition of insanity is continuing to do the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. I think the same thing could be said, for a large part, for the American electorate as we continue to send the same old worn out, sold out
hacks back to office and actually expect them to change their self serving intransience
and actually do something that makes sense.

We tend to look no farther than the "D" or "R" beside their name on the ballot to decide what kind person they are and what kind of political agenda they will pursue..

I submit to you that the Republican Party and the Democrat Party become more alike
every day. The Democrats pretty much get their way and the Republicans are so afraid of being called racist, or war monger or not wanting poor Americans to receive health care or wanting to throw Grandma off a cliff or wanting to starve children or any number of the other lies the Democrats and their pet puppy media uses to keep them in line, they just give up and give in.

I'm sick of hearing Mitch McConnell talk about how Obamacare needs to be repealed and doesn't lead an all out, no holds barred fight to defund it because he's afraid the Republicans will be blamed for shutting down the government.

Shut it down, if something isn't done soon it's going to shut down anyway.
Is that the kind of guts a leader is supposed to show.

I'm sick of John Boehner refusing to appoint a special a committee with subpoena power to investigate the Benghazi debacle when he's got to have sense enough to know four Americans died there and the Obama administration was too uncaring, too incompetent or too busy flying off to Las Vegas to even attempt to send help.

I'm sick of seeing a Tennessee Senator basking in the presidential glow and then coming home to seek election by the very people who voted against Obama.

I'm sick of seeing the IRS get away with a crime, Eric Holder being protected by Obama for the folly of Fast and Furious, the NSA snooping, the president legislating by executive order and tired of seeing Obama remove competent military commanders from leadership for no reason, I'm tired of seeing America disrespected around the world.
So who's minding the store?
Nobody!!

The Republican Party is scurrying around in a panic thinking that if they don't become "Democrat Lite" they will lose seats.

Well let me awaken you guys to a fact of life as it is viewed in fly over country.
We don't need another democrat party and we don't need a bunch of sniveling milksops
groveling at the feet of the media saying, "see we're not so bad, we're not so different from the Democrats, we're compassionate, we're caring and we can spend the tax payer's money just as profligately as the Democrats."

And therein lies the problem, you're not so different from the Democrats, you wave your white flag in whatever direction the prevailing political winds happen to be blowing, you stand for nothing, you no longer represent your constituents and it's time to get out of the way and let some people with principles, resolve and guts lead this nation.

I have always opposed third parties, thinking that they would water down the conservative vote to the point of impotency, but as it stands now, we basically have only one party anyway so if a third party candidate I believe in runs in my state, he or she will likely get my vote.

I don't publically endorse or support political candidates, but my vote, at present, is up for grabs.

Cause something's gotta give.

Like a lot of people, I have been noticing recently that racial integration and racial harmony has not been working out as well recently as we had hoped.   And yes, a lot of it is the President’s fault and there’s not much we can do to correct that until the next election.  But we have other problems as well.

There are probably some more that I missed, but you get my point.  There are also groups and organizations and programs for Asians only, and for Hispanics only.

There are no organizations for white people only to my knowledge (that would be discrimination) except for the KKK which was formed by southern Democrats and is now pretty much non-existent. 
OK, so what is my point?  The point is: all of these special programs, or most of them at least, were supposedly formed to help or benefit black people in America...and how is that working out for black culture? 
   
Maybe it's all a scam.   Maybe most of these programs are unnecessary.  Maybe some of these programs are doing more harm than good.  Maybe they encourage segregation and discourage integration.   Maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about.
