The Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2013

Sen. Thomas Harkin (D-IA) has introduced the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2013. If enacted, the minimum wage would climb to over $10/hour by 2015, and would be raised every year based on the Consumer Price Index.
Basically, as goods become more expensive, the minimum wage will rise.  This would feed on itself like a cancer.  The wage increase will drive up the consumer price index, which will in turn drive op minimum wage.
This gets particularly dangerous when you recognize that the Government is printing $85 Billion every month and dumping into the economy, drastically devaluing our currency in the process.  I read a headline just this morning boasting about how much the DOW has risen since Obama became President.  My friends, it isn’t that the DOW is going up, it is the value of the dollar going down.

If the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2013 becomes law, it will destroy the American small businesses that have been hanging on by a thread ever since Obama entered office.

The minimum wage was never meant to be a living wage. No one can afford to live on such a low wage. The minimum wage was designed for low-experience employees first entering the work force.   A while back, I wrote a blog about the minimum wage. I called it “baptizing cats”, if you haven’t read it, please do.  Here is the link:    http://cyberpolyticks.blogspot.com/2013/10/baptising-cats.html

Hey, I know first hand what it’s like to work for entry level wages.  When I first got out of the military in 1964, I went to work pumping gas in a gas station for one dollar per hour.  I worked 10 hours a day every day except Thursday, and I spent all day every Thursday looking foe a better job.  When I found a better job, even though it paid more per hour, I didn’t make any more per week because I only worked 40 hours per week instead of 60, and I had time to also wokk a part time job.

However it was not a “dead-end job like before.  I was an apprentice, In training for a better paying position.  Because of the ever increasing minimum wage, very few companies have apprentices.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to ease the burden on the working-poor among us. But raising the minimum wage accomplishes nothing when it also causes the price of EVERYTHING to increase as well. Only 2.9% of Americans work for the Federal minimum wage. Yet Democrats want to make everything more expensive for the other 97% of Americans!

President Obama and his colleagues on Capitol Hill have already made it public that they plan to put this legislation up for a vote during the month of November.  It will most likely pass, and the very people they claim they are trying to help will me the ones that will suffer the most…

  1. Some people just don’t understand that raising the price of labor does not automatically increase its value. A law that requires payment of $10 per hour to every brand-new, inexperienced, unproven worker does not suddenly make them worth $10 per hour. Of course, it costs business a lot more than $10 an hour to hire the employee, and that so called hidden cost just went up, thanks to ObamaCare.
